Friends in Malaysia

I'll be flying off to Malaysia in 2 days time. I managed to browse through some of my friends' blogs and observe their discussion from far without putting forth my views. It seems that there're lots of issues being discuss in Malaysia, and those people involved are none other than my friends!

I guess being 22 in age made my peer groups, as well as myself, eager in engaging in debates & discussion. Discussion on Islam, human rights, values, race, equality, education, social responsibility etc.

In the end of the day, what do we want? You and me are going to die, there's no escape to that. So make up your mind. Simple.

Oh yes, one more thing. I urge everyone to read! Read! Read! We know who reads and who don't. Please oh please, don't make yourself stupid in public by bombarding reasons that are not justified.

Renunciation of Islam

World

Almost all major news agency worldwide are reporting on one of the highly debated issues in Malaysia. The renunciation of Islam by a Malay-born Azlina Jailani, famously known as Lina Joy, and her attempt in withdrawing the word ISLAM from her ID Card. Here are some links from Forbes, The Australian, AsiaNews.it & Chicago Sun-Times to name a few.

Not to forget, our local (Malaysian) online news reports by The Star, Harakah, Utusan, Berita Harian & NST.

Those news are out-of-date anyway, but my point is that this issue is widely known which made journalists runnning around working round-the-clock unless they get updated news wired to them.

Constitution

Federal Constitution on the status of Malay
Article 160
(2) "Malay" means a person who professes the religion of Islam, habitually speaks the Malay language, conforms to Malay custom and -
(a) was before the Merdeka Day born in the Federation or in Singapore or born of parents one of whom was born in the Federation or in Singapore, or was on that day domiciled in the Federation or in Singapore;
or
(b) is the issue of such a person

Article 11
(1) Every person has the right to profess and practice his religion and, subject to Clause (4), to propagate it.
(2) No person shall be compelled to pay any tax the proceeds of which are specially allocated in whole or in part for the purposes of a religion other than his own.
(3) Every religious group has the right -
(a) to manage its own religious affairs;
(b) to establish and maintain institutions for religious or charitable purposes; and
(c) to acquire and own property and hold and administer it in accordance with law.

(4) State law and in respect of the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Lubuan, federal law may control or restrict the propagation of any religious doctrine or belief among persons professing the religion of Islam.
(5) This Article does not authorize any act contrary to any general law relating to public order, public health or morality.

Article 121
(1A) The courts referred to in Clause (1) shall have no jurisdiction in respect of any matter within the jurisdiction of the Syariah courts.

Feelings

I believe that this is the era where Malaysians are desperate in having a just legal system, social stability, mutual understanding between faith groups, religious education, inculcating good moral values and corporating a harmonious society between the Muslims, Christians, Buddhists as well as the Malays, Indians and Chinese. (not to forget the 'dan lain-lain' as well).

This is an era of education.

I believe that the best solution for the values mentioned above is to adhere the teachings of Islam.

Exhillirating!

I must admit that for the past 2 months, I have made contacts and managed to keep in touch with loads of old & new friends whom I believe have radical views & thoughts.

I somehow kept being the same old conservative me!

But the moments of sharing, discussing about almost everything seemed to be very very interesting and exhillirating!

It made me think.

Knowledge is not just about memorizing lines of phrases. It urges us to be more humane! Know what's right & wrong. Don't know? then go look for the answer. Being oppressed? then question the authority (in your respective field).

Whoa...it's not easy to put these feelings into a few lines in this blog, you just have to experience it yourself!

I guess this is how the Europeans felt when they rouse up from the Dark Ages....hmmm....

Ok, now i'm satisfied. Back to my lecture notes!

There is supposed to be my weekly 'usrah' tonight. Somehow, someway, my phonecalls remain unanswered when i made them to some of my usrah mates. Oh well...

Pre-Registration

Pre-registration for Year 2 is open today. I went to my school and registered for the same course; some of my friends changed their course (you could choose either doing Geology, Exploration & Resource Geology, Environmental Geology, Marine Geography or Earth Science).

These are some points that amazed me during the registration:

-27th September 2007 : School Registration

-1st - 5th October 2007 : 1-week Residential Fieldtrip to Devon/Dorset

-8th - 12th October 2007: 1-week Residential Fieldtrip to Lizard/Penzance

-1st 2 weeks after Easter Break 2008 : 2-week Residential Fieldtrip to Spain

Hehe...i'm fine with 'forced holiday'! But...

- a hall where emotions are put forth, not motions (am I biased? of course!)
- bad example for the younger generation; future leaders.
